HEaRT Challenge

HEaRT stands for Higher Education and Real-world Training, a no-cost SNHU initiative that serves to help you build the bridge between your coursework and the real-world challenges experienced by companies in your field. Depending on your program of study, you may choose to participate in a HEaRT Challenge or the HEaRT Solutions Lab.

Whats The Difference?

HEaRT Challenge HEaRT Solutions Lab
Eight weeks in length Four weeks in length
Open to UG and graduate students in healthcare and social science programs Open to UG students in healthcare, nursing human services and business programs
Two challenges are offered each eight week term Flexible sign up for a variety of four week projects
Register each term you wish to participate Register once and participate as much as your schedule permits
LEA option for eligible programs LEA option (with a small fee) toward SNHU-290
Assigned a mentor for each challenge Work independently with a facilitator who can answer questions
Submit an executive summary and PowerPoint presentation Varied deliverables (summary, PowerPoint, infographic, video, etc)

HEaRT Challenge

Overview & Requirements:

  • The HEaRT Challenge is an experiential learning opportunity for eligible students, alongside our other option, HEaRT Solutions Lab. During a HEaRT Challenge, SNHU’s academic and career teams partner with companies in various industries to identify critical business problems they’re trying to solve. As a challenge participant, you are assigned to a team which will develop solutions to solve these problems. Watch our intro video!
  • SNHU offers unique experiences through programs called Higher Education and Real-world Training (HEaRT) to help you gain experience while you are earning your degree.
  • Participating in HEaRT helps you build the bridge between your coursework and the real-world challenges experienced by healthcare organizations.
  • It is completed entirely online in Brightspace and SNHUconnect
  • The HEaRT Challenge encourages you to apply critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork skills, while networking with company representatives and peers under the mentorship of an assigned faculty member.

  • Demonstrate 21st century skills and competencies and earn digital badges for every challenge you complete. Learn more about how to share your digital badges via social media.
  • Students in certain programs* may earn credit for a small fee through the Learning Experience Assessment (LEA) process
    • *The Master of Science (MS) in Healthcare Administration, Master of Nursing (MSN) Generalist, MSN Nurse Executive Leader, MSN Patient Quality Safety and MSN Healthcare Quality & Safety programs may accept HEaRT LEA credit for the following courses:
      • IHP 510 Marketing, Communication Strategies and Outreach (relevant challenges: Marketing Strategies 1 and Communications Strategy 2) 
      • IHP 610 Health Policy and Law (relevant challenges: Policy Planning 1 and Regulations Assessment 2) 
      • IHP 630 Healthcare Finance and Reimbursement (relevant challenges: Reimbursement Strategies 1 and Financial Practices 2)

Eligibility:

  • You may be eligible if you:
    • Are enrolled in a social science or healthcare related program
    • Have a 3.0 GPA or better
    • Have earned 90 or more undergraduate credits or 6 or more graduate credits
      • If you are eligible, you will automatically receive an invitation email.
