FedPoint is seeking a UX/UI Designer intern to join our team for the spring semester 2025 with the opportunity to move into a paid part-time or full-time internship over the following summer. You will join a driven UX Design and Analytics team focused on building exceptional online platforms and experiences that enable more than 6 million federal employees, military, and their family members to manage their benefits. Using tools like Figma, FigJam, and Jira alongside basic HTML, Javascript, and CSS, you will work side-by-side with senior UX/UI Designers to help conduct internal design sessions, deliver wireframes, create user flows, help optimize information architectures, build prototypes, update UX related artifacts (personas, etc.), and generally improve our customer-facing website experiences.
This position is a Hybrid role requiring 1-2 days per week in the office (Portsmouth NH) – We are flexible within the hours.
Hours per week:
- Spring semester – 15 – 20 hrs
- Summer – Option to expand to 30 hrs
Pay: $20.00/hr
This position is HYBRID in Portsmouth, NH. Our offices underwent a complete renovation in early 2024 and are equipped with state-of-the-art team collaboration rooms, a café with full breakfast/lunch service, gym, noise dampening open concept floor plan, and quiet study areas throughout. Plus, natural walking trails and easy access with plenty of parking.
This is a paid internship not eligible for credit coursework. Candidates are required to have work authorization that does not rely on OPT or similar temporary student employment programs.
About the Team/Department:
The Digital Platforms & User Experience department is responsible for delivering exceptional user experiences for FedPoint’s portfolio of customer-facing self-service websites through a strategically balanced combination of customer/client needs, business/revenue objectives, compliance requirements, and industry best practices. The department also conducts research and data analysis to deliver actionable insights about online customer profiles and behavior to inform digital product feature roadmaps and strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with UX Design, Data Analytics, and others to gain insight into the goals and needs of platform users
- Participate in cross-functional design sessions
- Build user flows and interactive wireframes for new features and feature modifications
- Create graphics and visuals for customer-facing web properties
- Test / QA designs for browser / OS / device compatibility
- Create / update UX artifacts as needed
Qualifications:
- Rising Junior or Senior, or a graduate student, with completed studies in design, human-computer interaction, user experience, technology, product management, or similar.
- A portfolio showing a foundation of UX/UI design work (class projects and adjacent work welcome, provided you can demonstrate your understanding of key principles of user experience design)
- Experience with design tools such as Figma, XD, Sketch or equivalent
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS preferred. Knowledge of Javascript helpful but not required.
- Familiarity with graphics / image tools such as Adobe Photoshop
- Attention to detail and focused on end-user needs
- Passionate about research, design, and utilizing research/data-informed decision making to improve customer experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
