Miami Dade College (MDC) is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to serve as an Employee Relations and Engagement Officer. This key role is responsible for overseeing employee relations and compliance initiatives, ensuring fair and equitable employment practices College-wide.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves as liaison between employees and management by providing advice/guidance to College leaders, supervisors and employees to resolve specific problems through effective use of coaching, counseling, administration of progressive discipline as appropriate, with particular attention to grievance case management duties.
- Performs data collection, preparation, and analysis to serve a variety of institutional reporting needs.
- Develops engagement strategies to increase employee satisfaction and reduce turnover.
- Uses surveys, interviews, and other studies to conduct research regarding human resource policies and other employment issues; after analyzing the information, makes recommendations on changes.
- Organizes recognition programs, wellness initiatives, professional development and feedback mechanisms (e.g., surveys, focus groups, etc.).
- Prepares content and delivers presentations and training concerning areas of responsibility including, but not limited to best practices in employee relations, talent retention, supervision, talent development and performance management, equal access/equal opportunity.
- In collaboration with the College’s Center for Institutional/Organizational Learning, assists in evaluation of training programs from external resources including legal and related professional publications, industry white papers and online learning platforms.
- Keeps current with State and Federal rules and regulations through official publications and communication with appropriate agencies.
- Researches and explains laws and legal affairs concerning employee relations practices and strategies to managers.
- Provides direct assistance for the formulation and implementation of College policies and procedure as they affect the human resources area with a focus on employee relations.
- Performs related duties as required or deemed appropriate to accomplish the responsibilities and functions of the area.
- Manages unemployment compensation claims programs and other special internal employee relations and advancement activities, in coordination with the Office of Equal Employment
- Opportunity Programs and other College personnel as appropriate.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in Human Resources related field and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in specific Human Resources functional area; three (3) of which should be in a supervisory capacity or Master’s degree in Human Resource or related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in specific Human Resources functional area.
- All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
- Knowledge and understanding of the College’s organization, goals, objective, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of applicable Local, State and Federal laws and regulations, especially related to employment and equal opportunity/affirmative action guidelines.
- Knowledge of Microsoft office software and specific computer programs related to area of responsibility.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Ability to effectively present information to groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions for reporting purposes.
- Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff.
